In August of 2008, Community Living-Central Huron was the grateful recipient of a bequeath from the estate of Mr. Arthur Maskell. Mr. Maskell and his wife, Florence, were well known, lifelong residents of Goderich and area.
The Agency’s Board of Directors determined that a portion of the bequest be utilized for 2 scholarships to support/enhance the lives of people supported in the Central portion of Huron County. The notion of supporting a scholarship was put forth, and following research, the Board approved the development of two scholarships.
The Florence and Arthur Maskell Scholarship
To honour the Maskells' generous bequeath, The Florence and Arthur Maskell Scholarship was developed to assist individuals enrolled in post-secondary education, training or apprenticeship in the field of Developmental Services, maximum scholarship $1,000.00 per year.
The Evelyn M. Carroll Scholarship
A second scholarship, known as the Evelyn M. Carroll Scholarship, was designed to support students with a developmental disability wanting to further their post-secondary education, training or apprenticeship, maximum scholarship $1,000.00 per year. The late Mrs Carroll was an early volunteer and later a much valued employee of Community Living-Central Huron.
Every March, information and forms are distributed to the Guidance Departments of three County High Schools: Goderich District Collegiate Institute, St. Anne’s Catholic Secondary School and Central Huron Secondary School.
The deadline for both scholarships is mid-May of every year. Eligible students are then called to attend an interview with the Awards Committee; all students are notified in writing of the Committee's decision(s). In the past, a representative of Community Living-Central Huron has attended commencement exercises at the successful student's school and personally awarded a cheque to the student.
The Board of Directors is very please to be involved in this worthwhile initiative and would encourage all students to review the application forms and eligibility requirements, and consider furthering their education in the Human Services Field.
For more information, or to receive an application, please contact our Central Admin. Office at 519-524-7362 or firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline for both scholarships is mid-May of every year.
Recipients of Scholarships will be announced and presented at Commencement ceremonies.
